In the Welfare committee meeting on Tuesday night, the plan for the Community School ("Brede School") for the next four years was discussed. One of the issues to be tackled was parental involvement. It is at this time of great importance that parents are involved in the school course of their children. This desirable Parent involvement is a volatile issue. The district also has various promotion projects and activities created to stimulate parent involvement. ChristenUnie Amsterdam Zuidoost has also proposed to involve the churches. From their social role within the social society, the churches add value when it comes to encouraging parents to have more involvement with the school and education of their children. This proposal was embraced by the alderman.
 
Regarding the introduction of community schools the CU still places some critical comments. In community schools it is so that students stay for a longer session in the school which could be accommodated for different activities (in addition to the usual course) For example: after school care, homework assistance and play. A child could in principle be in school from 7 to 19:00. ChristenUnie Zuidoost believe that the time that the whole family together spend an important part in the development of the child and the whole family. A healthy balance between school hours and family time should not be forgotten!
