We received the news that the food bank in Zuidoost (Stichting Hoop voor Morgen / Hope for Tomorrow Foundation) since this month has no space for the distribution of food packages and storage of the food. Until recently, they used a space provided by a church, but the lease of the church was terminated. Now they are forced to distribute the food packages to the needy on the street. If you can help them to find a suitable (warehouse) space, Please contact them as soon as possible!
Hope for Tomorrow Foundation is the initiative of Regina Mac-Nack, who in 2005 was elected to Amsterdam citizen of the Year. The main objective of the foundation is to provide food packages to needy and helping them further in society. Every week, more than 400 families dependent on these food parcels. The foundation receives no subsidy from the local government and they work with a large group of volunteers who are committed to the work because of their love others. Many shops and companies provide food weekly for the food bank and the foundation works together with other food banks in the country.
The foundation is urgently looking for a suitable space in Amsterdam Zuidoost, storage of food (weekdays) and a place issuance of packages (on Saturdays). The space would have to have electricity and a toilet. As the foundation receives no funding and only runs on the work of volunteers, the food bank is not able to pay rent, but energy and service costs can be discussed. If you can you help the foundation, please comntact them as soon as possible via the website of Hoop voor Morgen / Foundation Hope for Tomorrow.
ChristenUnie Amsterdam Zuidoost is concerned about the food bank. It is a fact that there are many people in need, without this foundation would be left out in the cold. These are often distressing cases of families with children who are in a financially critical situation. They have, after paying bills, often nothing left for food and drink. We therefore see a role for the District Government / District Board (stadsdeel Zuidoost) in helping to find a suitable space. There are many buildings, especially in parking spaces which would be suitable, and which now are empty. By facilitating a space the District Government / District Board (stadsdeel Zuidoost) can help the food bank to get out of this urgent situation. We will ask the executive board, to help them.
