The first Political Café of ChristenUnie Amsterdam will take place on Thursday, January 26. This evening we will talk about the Red Light District. What about the many women who work against their will? How is the neighborhood holding up? Is crime rate still high?
We have invited two speakers for this evening. The first is Marieke Doorninck, fraction chairlady of GroenLinks in Amsterdam. It has the ambition to turn the red light district into a beautiful district: "The red wedges of the medieval city located along the canal a burlesque nightclub, in one street an old-fashioned variety with striptease, the other a female-friendly sex shop for example on the Nieuwmarkt a gallery of erotic art. "Are these dreamy vistas, without any sense of reality, or does Van Doorninck have the recipe to create a healthy sex industry? What does she find of the efforts of Alderman Asscher, who wants to "sweep" the red light district and said that the legalization policy failed?
The second speaker is Frits Rouvoet (Blood 'n Fire Foundation). He will talk about his work as a counselor at the red light district. Rouvoet helps prostitutes in all problems they have, and also provides an exit program for women with the difficult decision to stop work. Does he also believes that something as a healthy sex industry can exist? What needs to happen to address the many suffering in the red light district?
The evening will take place in the beautiful medieval Schreierstoren, situated on the edge of the Red Light District (Prince Hendrikkade 94). We start at half past eight, you are welcome from eight hours for coffee.
